HarmoniaeArs Harmoniae
accordions, piano, voilin, flute, sax, vibes and percussion

Founded in 1974, the ensemble has performed both in Austria and abroad, produced recordings and appeared on TV and radio. The desire to blend accordion with electronic instruments and also wind and string instruments, and working with contemporary music, led to the creation of "Ars Harmoniae".

The similarity of sound between the accordion and bandoneon and the search for a new style, led to Piazzolla's music, and in particular to the 'Tango Nuevo', their merger of jazz and tango nuevo music. In addition, the feelings of 'longing and sadness' are perhaps better expressed through the medium of song, so they added another focus by including renowned singers for new arrangements to express pieces such as Rinascero, Milonga de la Anunciacion and Oblivion. The ensemble comprises eight accordions, piano, violin , flute, saxophone, vibraphone and percussion instruments and vaires to add additional musicians depending on the various projects.

Honored Artist of Russia and Soloist of Rostov State Philharmonic, graduated from the Rostov Rachmaninov Conservatory in 1989 and accomplished his post-graduate studies at the Russian Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow in 1992 (class of professor V. Semyonov). He is laureate of international competitions in Germany (Klingenthal, 1988), USA (Kansas City, 1990), Italy (Castelfidardo, 1991). Nowadays, Yuri Shishkin is one of the most sought-after musicians.  His repertoire includes not only transcriptions by among others J. Brahms, A. Glazunov, S. Prokofiev, I. Stravinsky, M. Mussorgsky, P.I. Tchaikovsky, C. Saint-Saëns, G. Bizet, D. Shostakovich, J. Strauß, A. Copland but also original works by A. Kusyakov, V. Semyonov, V. Podgorny. He organizes festivals, concerts, widely promoting the bayan and the accordion by doing lectures and master classes in major cities around the world, performing in various regions of Russia and at international festivals and competitions.

Besides G. Gershwin’s „Rhapsody in Blue“ Y. Shishkin will perform V. Semyonov’s Sonata No. 3 "Reminiscence of the Future” which is dedicated to him by the composer. The world premiere on 21st of November, 2013 was performed at the Big Concert Hall of the Moscow House of Composers, and was part of the XXXV International Contemporary Music Festival "Moscow Autumn“.

In his introduction to the edition Yuri Shishkin writes:  "The mergence of the Third Sonata – a kind of symphony – was a new step by the maestro, where he continues to look for answers to the questions posed with realism and accuracy in the First Sonata. In his new composition, the composer refers to all mankind: is a person able to protect his love, is he able to survive, to hear the voice of reason? The composer denounces those who incite evil, appeals to all not to lose faith and reminds us of the main - "If love lives inside us, we are eternal“ (quote by Heinrich Heine). This phrase of the German poet opens and, as an outgoing to infinity message for our descendants, ends the 3rd movement of the Sonata, because only things made with love can remain immortal."

Maciej Golebiowski (clarinet)
Alexander Shevchenko (accordion)

Maciej and Alexander both came to Vienna, a city which has always had a strong connection to Eastern Europe, a few years ago and both brought distinguished classical training from Poland and Russia with them. These two open-minded musicians make use of their broad musical background and create their own art of klezmer in every concert. Golebiowski’s clarinet becomes lost in furious improvisations and he himself sings a Polish Tango and Shevchenko’s accordion answers with densely woven solos that never really want to end. The result: a program full of stylistic surprises and yet an example of chamber music that really works!

Paul Schuberth (accordion)
Johannes Münzner (accordion)
Victoria Pfeil (saxophone)

It was something like musical love at first sight when the two accordionists Paul Schuberth and Johannes Münzner met each other at the accordion workshop of Professor Friedrich Lips in Imst. A similar understanding of music and the admiration for the same role models brought Paul and Johannes together and still influence their compositions. Together with Victoria Pfeil, a highly skilled musician playing the four Saxophone types, the new trio broadens the horizon of the listener for innovative ideas of sound and harmony where their music touches accordion-techno-creation, pop is camouflaged as ironically jumping jazz and atonal and orchestral sounds alternate permanently.

DimetrikWolfgang Dimetrik
classical accordion

This exceptional musician, hailing from Austria, was born in 1974. He already had his first instruction in accordion at the age of six from Franz Maurer. At eleven years old, he entered the class taught by Prof. Mag. Erwin Moder at the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory for Music in Graz. Six years later he began his studies at the Institute of Music in Graz with Guest Prof. Mogens Ellegard, James Crabb and Geir Draugsvoll. He obtained his diploma there in 1996, and then moved with a stipend to Würzburg in Prof. Stefan Hussong’s class. He obtained the artistic diploma with honours in 2001, and took in 2003 that most regal of all courses, a master class.

At the relatively young age of 24 he was offered a teaching position at the Professional School of Music in Altötting in Bavaria. He has taught there since then in the departments of accordion, accordion/chamber music, methodology, history of performance and the literature, didactics of accordion and music pedagogy. After numerous master classes around the world, he now concentrates on very well known contemporary ensembles such as the Ensemble Modern, the Ensemble recherche, the Ensemble SurPlus and the Ensemble RECONSIL. Works for solo accordion and accordion chamber music continue to appear out of his active collaboration with composers of our time like Adriana Hölszky, Uros Rojko, Marko Zdralek and Thomas Heinisch.

Premieres, such as “Lied für Orchester” by Jörg Widmann with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott, and “Die Wände” by Adriana Hölszky under Alfons Kontarsky at the Frankfurt Opera. Dimetrik was hailed as a noteworthy newcomer by the international press after the release of his first CD with Bach’s Goldberg Variations. His second recording followed in 2003 with selected piano sonatas of Joseph Haydn. His third CD appeared in 2007, a portrait of the composer Uros Rojko with the programmatic title “Spin”.

Markus Fellner (clarinet, percussion) and Stefan Kollmann (accordion) are mixing a musical cocktail beyond stereotypes and norms, spiced together with a good dose of groove.

The program offers an unusual stylistic diversity of original compositions and transcriptions in the fields of jazz, baroque, tango, new musette and contemporary music. Listeners are invited to dive into a uniquely different concert event!

Together with his guitarist Martin Schaberl - another exceptional artists in the Styrian music scene – they are seducing their public to a musical "debate" with tangos and musette pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Richard Galliano – full of contrast and harmony. Classical tango meets jazz, improvisation alternates with notation or they complete each other. Werner Weibert - Director

The Viennese Accordion Chamber Accordion Ensemble was founded in 1967 by Prof. Walter Maurer, well known as a central figure of the CIA while serving several key positions, including as General Secretary from 1975-2006. The ensemble, directed by Werner Weibert comprises the best soloists in Austria and virtually has remained together ever since. One of the secrets of this lasting success is consistency. The repertoire contains all styles and epochs. More than half of their standard programs are compositions from Vivaldi, Bach to Mozart and Mussorgsky, from Johann Strauss to Gershwin, Bernstein, Piazzolla and many more. Success was also achieved through performances of original music by Rudolf Wuerthner, Brehme, Schollum, Jacobi, Dobler or Seiber, just to mention a few.

Friederike Steiner, conductor

The accordion orchestra was founded in 1978 and, over the years, evolved from a five-member ensemble to a big orchestra conducted by Friederike Steiner since 30 years. Nowadays, in addition to the orchestra, there are also an ensemble and a youth orchestra, to develop the future generation of accordionists. The numerous activities of the ZiehHarmoniker range from regional concerts to various events throughout Austria and participation in church occasions.

Musically, the compromise between the technical possibilities as non-professionals and their own high expectations is being targeted. The repertoire includes mostly swing and jazz specially arranged for accordion orchestra. However, Tango or Tango Nuevo as well as “classics” from pop and rock are also going to be performed. In various competitions awards were achieved, recently 2nd price at the “Prague Harmonica Days 2013” when performing “Escualo” by Astor Piazzolla/Werner Weibert, “Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka” by Johann Strauss and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Freddie Mercury in the category of adult orchestras.

J. Brahms, A. Glasunow, S. Prokofieff,  I. Strawinsky, M. Mussorgsky, P.I. Tschaikowsky, C. Saint-Saëns,  G. Bizet, D. Schostakowitsch, J. Strauß, A. Copland, sondern auch Originalwerke von A. Kusyakov, V. Semjonow, V. Podgorny.

- That’s groovy!

Leitung Friederike Steiner
