Jessica
Chen is 19 years of age and is currently in her second year of
a Town Planning degree (BPlan) at the University of Auckland.
In 2007, she was awarded the Rangitoto College Zigliani Cup for
Excellence in Music. Jessica is a regular competitor in the NZAA
(NZ Accordion
Assoc. Inc.) Championships and has had many successes since
2002 winning a number of NZ & South Pacific Solo Championship
classes, including the 15 & under South Pacific Championships,
NZ Open Solo in 2005 and the Junior Virtuoso in 2006. She received
a music scholarship from Northern District Knights Templar Foundation
in 2002 and 2008.
Jessica plays lead accordion for the North Shore Accordion Orchestra
(NSAO) and in 2007 she travelled to the USA with the NSAO to compete
in the AAA/ATG (AAA
- American Accordionists Association, ATG
- Accordionists & Teachers Guild International) Accordion
Festival and the Coupe Mondiale competition. In the American competitions,
she was placed 1st and 2nd in the 17 & under open Ethnic and
Classical classes respectively and placed 9th overall in the Junior
Coupe Mondiale.
Last year, Jessica was a finalist for the Shore Got Talent competition.
In the North Shore Harmony Club Competition, she was awarded the
Most Promising Instrumentalist for 17 Years & under. Jessica
also performs for local events and music clubs.
