|
- Prestigious
International Competition returns to New Zealand after 29 years.
- CIA World Accordion Orchestra III
- Musical Guests/Performers from the Four Corners of the World.
Takapuna, Auckland will become the "World Accordion Capital"
as accordionists and enthusiasts from all over the world converge
upon Takapuna to attend the 2009 Coupe Mondiale - the "World
Cup" of accordion championships - from 25th to 30th August
2009 at the Bruce Mason Theatre, Takapuna City.
The CIA Coupe Mondiale, recognized as the most prestigious annual
accordion competition of international scope, takes place in a
different country every year, under the auspices of the Confederation
International des Accordeonistes, which is currently celebrating
its 62nd anniversary since the first such event, in 1938 in Paris.
The Confederation is affiliated with the International Music Council
and UNESCO.
This will be the second time that this most prestigious accordion
competition has been held in New Zealand. Previously held in Auckland
in 1980, hosted by the New Zealand Accordion Association, the
Coupe Mondiale then was the first ever international music competition
to be held in New Zealand and the event was opened by then New
Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon in front of a capacity crowd
at the Auckland Town Hall.
"The Coupe Mondiale attracts accordionists and accordion
music lovers from all over the world because the instrument is
particularly significant to so many cultures and music styles,"
says New Zealand Accordion Association (NZAA) President John Statham. We
are pleased to have this awesome array of accordion talent return
to New Zealand and to again host the Coupe Mondiale after so many
years."
Highlights of the Coupe Mondiale whirlwind week include:
- Four
daytime and evenings of accordion entertainment and concerts
at the world class Bruce Mason Center
- The
World Accordion Orchestra III
- Series
of gala social receptions with endless entertainment and late-evening
performances in a lounge setting with open mike for participating
accordionists.
