The International Competition for Accordionists (Coupe Mondiale) is open to accordionists of all nationalities who comply with the rules. Competition is offered for accordionists in any of the seven categories listed below:
 
(1) Coupe Mondiale
(2) Masters Coupe Mondiale
(3) Junior Coupe Mondiale
(4) Virtuoso Entertainment
(5) Junior Virtuoso Entertainment
(6) Ensemble - Classical
(7) Ensemble - World Music

a. Candidates must be entered through the CIA Premiere and Voting member organization(s) in their respective countries. If a candidate is from a country where there is no CIA Premiere or Voting member organization, prospective candidates can apply directly to the CIA, subject to acceptance, until such time as a voting member entity is established in that country.
 
b. All entries are subject to acceptance by the CIA Music Committee. In the case of non-acceptance, the applicant and/or the sponsoring member association will be advised in writing of the reason(s) the entry was refused.
 
c. No applicant may be refused entry for religious, political or racial reasons. Nonpayment of fees may constitute reason for non-acceptance of an entry.
 

a) It is forbidden to perform any piece more than once throughout the competition. Therefore, when a piece is played in any category, it cannot be played again in a subsequent round or in any other category. If the competitor performs any piece a second time, he/she will be disqualified from that category.
 
b) Entry form must include opus numbers and any other identification such as catalogue numbers and individual movements for each selection performed.
 
c) Entry form must list full name of composer and the arranger if applicable.
  
d) Notification must be made to the Coupe Mondiale Organizers if you cannot attend.
  
e) First Place winners in a category may not enter that same category in subsequent years. The Coupe Mondiale category winner cannot take part in the Masters category in subsequent years.
 
f) On the entry form for each category, candidates will be required to acknowledge that they have read and understand all the rules for the competition, both the General Rules, and the individual category rules.
 

a) The CIA Music Committee shall recommend to the General Assembly the nominations for the Adjudicators' panels and their chairpersons.
 
b) Persons appointed as adjudicators must be musicians of the highest standing who have knowledge of accordion technique and the possibilities of the instrument as relevant to the competition category concerned.
 
c) Each Premiere Voting Member having at least one competitor from that country can nominate 1 or 2 jury members to be hosted by the organisers. Each Voting Member having at least one competitor can nominate 1 jury member to be hosted by the organisers. The Premiere Voting members and Voting Members can nominate additional jury members, who will not be hosted by the organisers.
 
d) Each adjudicator must be nominated by the Premiere or Voting Member they represent, by submitting the on-line registration form by the due date.
 
e) Jury members from the countries not represented in the CIA can be proposed to the Music Committee.
 
f) The approval of all jury members lies on the Music Committee.
 
g) The Executive Committee shall nominate at least three suitable persons to the General Assembly to be members of the Calculation Committee. They cannot be Jury members.
 
Contestants are judged in all sections on overall musicianship, including technical proficiency and stylistic understanding of all music performed. The decisions of the jury are final.
 
Please ensure your program meets the competition guidelines concerning time limits. If the player exceeds the time limit by more than two (2) minutes, the President of the Jury may stop the performance at his or her discretion.
 

a) The Chairman of the Jury controls the process of auditions of the category. The chairman of the jury has the right to regulate the auditions process, make decisions to stop and continue auditions if necessary. The chairman of the jury is obliged to inform the CIA Executive committee of all detected violations of the rules, both by the contestants and the jury members.
 
b) Before the start of each category auditions one of the CIA Music Committee or Executive Committee members will explain the exact rules and requirements of the Category, including program content and time limits. Jury briefing is mandatory for each Jury member.
 
c) There will be rest breaks during the competition, which will be determined by the CIA Executive Committee and announced in advance to the competitors.
 
d) The CIA Music Committee shall ask if there may be some reason that a mark should not be counted from a particular adjudicator for any of the candidates. (Reasons may include but not limited to: teacher/student, close personal/professional relations, relatives etc). Each Jury member will be asked to fill and sign a specific form.
 
e) The Chairman of the Jury together with the CIA Calculation Committee will decide how many candidates will proceed to the next round of their particular category.
 
f) Adjudication shall be open. The adjudicators should not be seated too closely.
 
g) Notification if you cannot attend. Coupe Mondiale organizers must know the exact number of adjudicators in order to make an accurate assignment for the various Coupe Mondiale categories and other planning.
 
h) Each Adjudicator must preserve the reputation of the CIA and CIA members. General behavior of Adjudicator must be neutral and objective. Adjudicators must concentrate on judging only and not have any communication with the audience, fellow adjudicators or candidates and not do anything that might distract him/her.
 
An adjudicator may not use mobile telephones or portable digital-information devices of any kind during the competition performances. Any questions arising from this policy the Chairman’s decision shall be final. Each Adjudicator must arrive on time at the venue and planned meetings. Unprofessional conduct or failure to adhere to good standards of behavior may result in removing the marks and the Jury memberse.
 

a) The adjudicators are required to observe a consistent standard of adjudication. Each round will be marked out of 25 points.
 
b) Marks:

1. The highest mark shall be removed. If more than one adjudicator has the highest mark, only one of those adjudicators' marks shall be deleted.
2. The lowest mark shall be removed. If more than one adjudicator has the lowest mark, only one of those adjudicators' marks shall be deleted.
3. The mark from the adjudicator of the same nation as the competitor shall be removed.
4. The mark from the adjudicator who is closely connected with the competitor personally or professionally will be removed.

c) There will be an adjudicators’ meeting after the first three candidates (or as determined by the Chairman of the Jury) to determine the general level of marks. The Calculation Committee will convene this session to set the level of marks awarded to performances.
 
d) The final score must be marked on the adjudicator's score sheet and given to the Calculation Committee by the conclusion of each round..
 

a) When registering at the event, the candidate must present to the organizers a valid passport or identity card. The organizers will determine the candidate's nationality based upon his or her passport. The Ensembles having members from multiple nations can choose their nationality.
 
b) At the appointed time and place, the candidates will draw for playing order in each section or round. A member of the CIA Executive Committee, usually the CIA General Secretary, will be present. Candidates who are not represented at the draw must accept the position drawn for them. Except in the case of circumstances beyond their control, no candidate shall be permitted to depart from the drawn playing order.
 
c) Each candidate shall be suitably dressed to present themselves as artists to the audience.
 
d) Each candidate shall attend the Prize Giving Ceremony to receive his/her Certificate of Participation.
 
e) Failure to follow the competition rules may result in the candidate's entry being rejected or in disqualification.
 
f) Problems should be solved through the candidate's nation's CIA Delegate, and where there is no delegate, an application may be made in writing to the CIA Secretary General.
 
g) By submitting the online entry form, the candidate grants the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) the right to record and offer for sale and promotion any kind of photo and audio/video materials of the Coupe Mondiale competitions and performances.
 
h) Every effort will be made to allow as many candidates as possible to participate in each round. It is possible that not all candidates will progress to the next Round.
 

a) The calculation of the results from the adjudicators' mark sheets shall be carried out by the Calculation Committee, consisting of three members.
 
b) The duty of the Calculation Committee shall be to calculate the Final Mark for each section of each category. All adjudicators marks shall be reviewed. Marks for each contestant shall be removed as required by 10b of this document. All remaining marks shall be totalled and then averaged by the number of elegible adjudicators.
 
c) The Calculation Committee shall complete their work and publish the results in time for the prize giving ceremony.

All participants must announce their arrival and departure dates and times with the on-line registration form. Participants requiring a visa should request an official invitation from the hosting country to obtain a visa when entering the competition.
