Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) was founded in 1982 with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The orchestra has grown into one of China’s finest professional orchestras after more than 30 years of explorations and efforts. The orchestra has since distinguished itself as having a high level of excellence and a rising international profile. Violinist Mr Nie Bing is the current president of the orchestra, Maestro Yu Long as Artistic Advisor, Music Director is the distinguished conductor Lin Daye. Until 2007, well-known Chinese conductors such as Yao Guanrong, Zhang Guoyong, and Yu Feng have held the position of Music Directors of the orchestra in the past. Christian Ehwald, the Principal Professor of ‘Hanns Eisler’ Conservatory of Music’s Conducting Department in Berlin, assumed the position of Music Director from 2008 to July 2016. Since August 2016, famous young conductor Lin Daye has been appointed as the Music Director of the orchestra.
The orchestra has toured regularly around China since 1987, making stops in many cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Sichuan and Xinjiang. The orchestra has also done regional tours in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao in that time. On the international stage, it has toured in over four continents, spanning countries such as the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, South Africa, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Korea, Thailand and other cities and has received international acclaims. Since 1994, the orchestra has participated in major festivals including the 4 China Art Festival, 3 China-
International Piano Concerto Competition, Shenzhen-International Piano Concerto Competition, China Conducting Competition Concert, Beijing Modern Music Festival, National Center for the Performing Arts Festival, Shenzhen ICIF Art Festival, Turkey Istanbul Music Festival, Izmir Music Festival, Ankala Music Festival, Mittelfest, Ravello Wagner Music Festival, Bellini Music Festival, French Dinar Music Festival and 1 World Buddhism Symposium.
They have received many praises in regard to these various performances. They have also been involved in many events on the CCTV. In 1997, they were invited to Europe and were the first orchestra from China to perform at the Berlin Philharmonie Hall and Smetana Concert Hall in the Czech Republic. In 2007, they were also the first orchestra from Asia to perform at the Cathedral of Saint-Louis des Invalides in Paris. In 2013, the orchestra was invited by UNESCO to perform the Confucian Symphony Ode to Humanity at the UNESCO Headquarters City Hall.
In 2016, the orchestra has received international acclaims for the Chinese New Year Celebration performances in the United States and Canada. “Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra implacable grandeur performance could have graced the pit of any regional opera house in the United States or Europe” by the Washington Post.
Throughout the years, the orchestra has cultivated long lasting collaborations with great conductors and soloists such as Lv Qiming, Chen Gang, Tan Dun, Ye Xiaogang, Tang Jianping, Wang Ning, Huang Anlun, Zhang Qianyi, Eric Kunzel; conductors such as Li Delun, Huang Xiaotong, Chen Bianyang, Tang Muhai, Chen Zuohuang, Zheng Xiaoying, Shui Lan, Hu Yongyan, including renowned international conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Daniel Oren, Edvard Tchivzhel, Guido Johannes Rumstadt, Lior Shambadal, Husco, Michael Foster and Smart. The orchestra has also performed works by famous composers like Lv Qiming, Chen Gang, Tan Dun, Ye
Xiaogang, Tang Jianping, Wang Ning, Huang Anlun, Zhang Qianyi, Eric Kunzel; and has featured soloists such as Lang Lang, Li Yundi, Chen Sa, Wang Jian, Qin Liwei, Qian Zhou, Lv Siqing, Ning Feng, Chen Xi, Zhu Dan, Zuo Zhang, Arto Noras, Oxana Yablonskaya, Kun Woo Paik, Antje, Weithaas, Midori and Diana Tishchenko as well as famous singers, Dai Yuqiang, Liao Changyong, Song Zuying, Zhang Liping, Huang Ying, Dilber Yunus, Wu Bixia, Yin Xiumei, He Hui, Jose Carreras, Carlow Struly among others. On the home front, the orchestra has focused on actively supporting the works of local composers. Noteworthy pieces are the premieres of the Choral Symphony Ode to Humanity, Symphonic Folksongs, Hakka Rhyme and Harmony of the Divine Land which have received critical acclaims from professional musicians, audiences and the media. The orchestra is passionate about supporting the Shenzhen local symphonies. They
also perform the works of local composers and promote the culture of Shenzhen annually. “Being the finest orchestra, performing a public service, and bringing over elegant music into the society” is the motto of the orchestra. Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra aims to propagate and promote music literacy in Shenzhen. The orchestra also hopes to enhance their reputation both in China and abroad with a wide range of repertoire and the cultural awareness of Shenzhen. |

In 2010, Mao Junhao was enrolled to the middle school attached to Central Conservatory of
Music with the highest score. He continues to pursue his undergraduate degree and master degree at the Central Conservatory of Music. In 2015, Mao Junhao began to study composing as second major at the Central Conservatory of Music under tutelage of Associate Prof. Zhu He and Prof. Hao Weiya. Junhao has collobrated with composers actively, premiered and recorded many accordion original compositions and film music. Besides, he has also composed many accordion solo and chamber works. Currently, Mao Junhao has released two solo accordion albums which are “Song for Seasons” and “the Color of Beijing”. |

Tan Jialiang, a young accordion player, is the vice president of Shenzhen Accordion
Association, vice president of Shenzhen Bao’an District Musicians A ssociation, president
of Shenzhen Bao’an District Accordion Association, and vice president of Shenzhen Bao’an District Pop Music Association. He graduated from Shenyang Conservatory
of Music. In April 2010, he began studying under Frederic Deschamps, a famous French accordion master, and learned to play pop accordion. Tan has won 12 awards in international
and domestic accordion competitions, and has been invited to hold several solo concerts
and lectures at home and abroad. In October 2010, he won the third place in the Virtuoso
Enntertainment Category of the 63 Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships
(Croatia) . In July 2012, on behalf of China, he was invited to participate in the 40 Finland
National Television Accordion Competition. He was the only Chinese player who won the
first place during 40 sessions. In July 2015, he won the champion of the Popular Music (Adult) Category of the 1 China Shenzhen“Xixiang Music Valley Cup” International Accordion Competition. Tan was twice commended and awarded a certificate of honor by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China. Since 2008, he has created and adapted many accordion works (solo, reprise and ensemble), which have been selected for international competitions for several times. His works have been performed by many domestic and foreign players and contestants. In recent years, he has created and composed wonderful pieces of music for children and teenagers. Tan has cooperated with Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra at the opening ceremony of many largescale events. In the 2017 Shenzhen“Belt and Road”International Music Week opening concert, he and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra jointly performed“Rojotango”. In 2018, as a member of the Shenzhen delegation, he visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for charity performances. On March 5 , 2019, he participated in a special concert celebrating the 40 anniversary of the establishment of Shenzhen, where he performed Piazzolla’s“Forgetting”and“Liber tango”in cooperation with Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. On March 26 , 2019, Tan Jialiang was appointed as cultural consultant of Bao’an District, Shenzhen. In the same year, he was awarded the“Shenzhen Bao’an District Youth Five Four Medal”. |

Radu Ratoi (born on September 20, 1998) is a Moldovian/Romanian accordion player and the
winner of more than 30 international competitions. He started learning accordion at 6 years old, and finished his study at the School of Arts Alexei Starcea at 15 years old in 2014. He has won a number of competitions, including the 2019 Klingenthal Akkordeonwettbewerb in the Senior Classic Catergory and World Music Catergory, the 2016 Coupe Mondiale in the Junior Category, the 2018 Coupe Mondiale in the Coupe Mondiale Catergory and Entertainment Virtuoso Catergory, etc. He has held concerts in Russia and most of the European and North American Countries. Radu Ratoi's music features a variety of styles, ranging from classicism, modernism, jazz, to folk music from different countries. His unique insight into the national music adds charm to his performances. He has obtained the President Scolarship of the Republic of Moldova in 2018 and won the title of“2018 Best Artist of Moldova”, etc. Now he is receiving further education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Denmark. |

Yuri Shishikin is the Russian Meritorious Artist, Professor at Rostov-on-Don Rachmaninoff National Academy of Music, Russian National Medal winner, 2016 Honorary Vice President of the Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes (CIA), and Honorary Professor at many schools. He graduated from Gneissin State Musical College in Russia and studied under Semenov—a renowned Russian composer, educator and People’s Artist. When Shishikin was young, he has participated in more than ten worldclass competitions, such as International Accordion Competition Klingenthal, International Accordion Competition Kansas City (USA) and Castelfidardo International Competition for Accordionist, and has won the first place for many times. Shishikin is now one of the most popular musicians all over the world. When it comes to social activities, he has played an active role in organizing music festivals
and concerts and in promoting bayans and piano accordions vigorously. He has opened many master classes and held concerts around the world. His performances involve various music styles, and usually feature the works of Brahms, Handoshkin, Glazunov, Prakofiev, Stravinsky, Musorsky, Rimski-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Shostakovich, Strauss, Kusakov, Semenov, Podgorny, etc. Meanwhile, he has cultivated collaborations with many symphonies and chamber orchestras. Music of Weber, Gubaidulina, Gershwin, and Piazzolla is often included in the repertoire. |
