 Astana International Airport (NQZ) Nursultan Nazarbayev International (NQZ) Airport stands as the primary international airport serving Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Situated 15 kilometers southeast of the city center, the airport comprises two passenger terminals: T1, designated for international destinations, and T2, catering to domestic flights. Convenient transportation options, including taxi services and public buses (routes number 10, 12, and 100), facilitate travel to and from the airport.
The history of Astana begins in 1830 with the construction of the Akmola fortress on the Ishim River. A city grew around it, becoming an important trade and economic center of the region. In 1879, a railway connecting Tyumen and Akmolinsk was proposed. On July 6, 1994, the decision was made to move the capital from Almaty to Akmola, and the official transfer took place on December 10, 1997. On May 6, 1998, Akmola was renamed Astana, and in 1999 it was awarded the title of a “City of Peace” by UNESCO. Since 2000, the city has been a member of the International Assembly of Capitals and Large Cities.
