International Competition for Virtuoso Entertainment Music, Round II |
- OWN CHOICE PROGRAM:
Own Choice Program consisting of at least two (2) pieces of different
styles and moods.
- Playing time: maximum
9 minutes.

Masters Coupe Mondiale |
- OWN CHOICE PROGRAM:
consisting of three (3) or more pieces including one from the Baroque
era, one piece to be of a slower, lyrical style and one piece of
a technical virtuosic style. It must contain at least one Original
Work but transcriptions may also be used. Single movements from cyclic
works are acceptable.
- Competitors
must present themselves as artists to an audience; presentation, dress
and stage-craft all being important.
- Playing time: suggested minimum of 15 minutes to maximum 20 minutes playing time.

International Competition for Chamber Music - Classical Music |
- For two (2) to five (5) musicians of any formation, with minimum one accordion (e.g., can be multiple accordions, or accordions
with other instruments).
- Chmaber Music Ensemble competition is for acoustic
instruments (no electronics). All accordions must be acoustic reed
instruments.
- Own Choice Program of concert music
consisting of at least two (2) pieces with contrasting style.
- The competition organizers will not
provide instruments other than a piano tuned to A 442.
- Playing time:
maximum 20 minutes playing time.
- Marking will take into consideration
program choice, level of playing and ensemble work.

International Competition for Chamber Music - World Music |
- For two (2) to five (5) musicians in any formation, minimum one acoustic accordion (e.g., can be multiple accordions, or accordions with other instruments).
- World Music Ensemble is for all acoustic and electronic instruments but the candidates must provide their own equipment. A piano tuned at A 442 will be provided by the organisers
- Own Choice Program of concert music consisting of at least two (2) pieces with contrasting style.
- Marking will take into consideration program choice, level of playing and ensemble work.
- Maximum playing time: 20 minutes
- All music must be performed live, no pre recorded or backing tracks will be allowed.
- Each contestant has a maximum set up time of 5 minutes.

This year, the results of the competitions are being announced as they are ready. The full awards ceremony, complete lists of placings and marksheets from the adjudicators will be presented on Saturday. Fittingly, the first of the Coupe Mondiale winners announced this year was from the host country.

Concert - Mika Väyrynen |
A musician who can look back over hundreds of concerts in Finland, elsewhere in Europe and in Asia, Mika Väyrynen (b.1967) is one othe worlds best known and most highly-acclaimed accordionists. He began his concert career in the mid-1980s and has since been the soloist with almost all the professional Finnish orchestras , many european orchestras and at the music festivals the world over. As a chamber musician he has also appeared with numerous other world-class artists.
Since 1990, Mika Väyrynen has released upwards of 20 discs that have aroused great national and international interest. His critically-acclaimed complete recording of the Goldberg Variations, for example, has acquired cult status among accordion players and is one of the best selling representatives in its genre. 2013 he finished complete recording of all Bach´s French Suites. His duo cd with japanese cellist Yoko Hasegawa was awarded 5 stars from most Japanese music press and was sold out right away after publishing. He has made many world premiere recordings of new works for accordion. He has been artist of Finnish National Broadcasting company since 1985.
Mika Väyrynen is an active performer and champion of contemporary music. He has works written for and dedicated to him by many composers, among them Jouni Kaipainen, Paavo Korpijaakko, Olli Kortekangas, Anatoli Kusyakov, Kirmo Lintinen, Pasi Lyytikäinen, Pehr Henrik Nordgren, Juhani Nuorvala, Bogdan Precz, Kari Rydman, Aulis Sallinen and Erkki-Sven Tüür.
A highly-respected pedagogue, Mika Väyrynen teaches the accordion at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland, since 2000) and has guest lectured at many foreign music academies and universities. 1992-1996 he worked at Kärtner Landeskonservatorium (Klagenfurt, Austria) as professor and head of accordion faculty. His students have won several prizes in accordion competitions, as well as in competitions for multi-instruments. He has been awarded several cultural prizes and grants, including national artist grant. 2014 he was awarded Italian “Voce d`oro” prize. He won the 1st Prize in the Coupe Mondiale competition in Switzerland in 1989.
Mika Väyrynen started accordion playing at age of 5 years . After some private teachers tuition, he was accepted to study accordion playing at Tampere Conservatory. 1981-1985 he studied at “Specially Talented Childrens Departement” at the Sibelius Academy. 1985 he continue his studies at soloist class at the Sibelius Academy, performed his concert diplom with exellent numbers 1991 and got Masters´s Degree in music 1992. During season 1988-1989 he studied in Paris, France. He become Doctor of Music 1997, from the Sibelius Academy.
