Art Van Damme, one of the world's best known accordionists, responded to the invitation and his performances during the opening and closing concerts would have been the best examples of jazz accordion playing heard in NZ.  Art Van Damme also gave demonstrations and workshops for other jazz musicians in main centres around the country and at the invitation of TVNZ he recorded a studio concert to an invited audience.  The programme was later screened on the TV National Network.

The Springfield Accordion Orchestra from Massachusetts, with their leader Sam Falcetti, added NZ to their long list of destinations at which they have played to international acclaim.  Their varied programme, incorporating other instruments, dancers and singers, created an air of excitement rarely, if ever, up to that time, experienced in this part of the world.
